Same technology, different brand naming. Here's what actually matters for your office cooling decision.
VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) is Daikin's trademark; VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) is the generic industry term used by Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Samsung and others. The underlying technology — variable-speed compressors feeding multiple indoor units from one outdoor unit — is essentially the same.
Why VRV/VRF dominates modern Mumbai offices
- • One outdoor unit serves 8–64 indoor units
- • Each cabin / zone can be controlled independently
- • Significantly more energy-efficient than multiple split ACs
- • Quieter — no large rooftop chiller plant required
- • Lower copper piping costs vs ductable
What can go wrong
VRV systems are dense electronics. PCB faults, EXV (electronic expansion valve) blockages and refrigerant leaks across long copper runs are the typical failure modes. Routine pressure-testing and PCB diagnostics during AMC visits catch most issues before they become breakdowns.
