How Often Should You Service Your AC in Mumbai?

12 April 20266 min read

Mumbai's humid, salty, and dusty air shortens AC service intervals. Here's the realistic schedule we recommend by usage and zone.

Mumbai's coastal climate is one of the toughest cooling environments in India. Salt-laden air corrodes copper coils, monsoon humidity loads up filters with biofilm, and post-Diwali dust clogs blowers. The standard 'service once a year' rule from manufacturer manuals is built for dry inland cities — it's not enough for Mumbai.

Recommended servicing schedule

  • Sea-facing flats (Bandra, Worli, Marine Drive): every 4 months
  • Inland residential split AC (Powai, Mulund, Thane): every 6 months
  • Window AC in older buildings (Khar East, Dadar, Sion): every 4-5 months
  • Commercial ductable / cassette AC: quarterly preventive servicing
  • VRV / VRF systems: quarterly with annual deep service

Signs you've waited too long

Weak airflow, water dripping from the indoor unit, longer cooling time, MCB tripping, or a musty smell when you switch on the AC are all signals that filters are choked, the coil is fouled, and the drain line is partially blocked. Once water starts dripping, salts in standing water can pit the aluminium fins permanently.

What a proper service includes

  • Indoor unit deep wash with foam-spray coil cleaner
  • Outdoor unit pressure wash + condenser fin straightening
  • Drain line flush with anti-microbial
  • Gas pressure check (R32 / R410A / R22) and top-up if needed
  • Capacitor, fan motor and PCB inspection
  • Insulation check on copper piping
